It is important for Latter-day Saints to understand the prophetic picture portrayed
in the Book of Mormon in order to more accurately plan the activities of their lives. That
portion of Nephi's greater vision of the last days—that which he records in 1 Nephi 14—
deals with an era of warfare against Zion, which is the major prophetic theme in the Book
of Mormon about our day and age. Further, the Book of Mormon, with its unique latter-
day message and picture is focused on the mission of the Church (especially in the New
World) in the last days—in contrast to the biblical records that primarily deal with events
in the Old World. This focus means that the prophetic Book of Mormon should hold
unique interest to members of the restored Church of Jesus Christ.
