Introductory Question: How important is the doctrine of the New Birth in the overall picture of life which the Scriptures reveal?
Answer:
Christ is central. We must understand his role as the First Born and the Only Begotten of the Father, and the infinite atonement which he made to redeem all other children of the Father.
Second, we must understand the doctrine of the creation and of the Fall of Adam, with the effects of the Fall on the world. We must understand these doctrines in order to understand our present state and condition, and why we need Christ and the New Birth.
After the doctrine of Christ and his Atonement, and after the doctrine of the Creation and Fall, the most basic doctrine in the plan of life and salvation is the Doctrine of the New Birth. To Adam the Lord said, beginning with Moses 6:58.
