The Fall

By the power of Christ’s infinite atonement infants enter the world in an innocent but fallen state.

Brigham Young’s remarks at Mount Pleasant, Utah: “This earth, when it fell, went millions of miles from the presence of God; and when it returns back it will go millions of miles from its present position, to where it came from.”[1]

Eve had a divine elective right to initiate the Fall of the earth from the paradisiacal state to mortal life. She, not merely Adam, would bring forth mortal children on the fallen sphere. She was therefore like the earth, which was created to bring forth an array of mortal life in a fallen state. As the earth was fore-designed, so Eve was divinely elected to bring forth human life on the mortal sphere. And as the fallen sphere is called “Mother Earth,” so therefore is the first woman called “Mother Eve.”[2]
