The restoration of the Melchizedek Priesthood has long been a matter of interest
to Latter-day Saints. For some reason Joseph Smith did not record the date or give an
account of that important event, though there is ample testimony and historical evidence
to support the fact that it did occur. A revelation on in April, 1830 mentioned that Joseph
Smith and Oliver Cowdery had been ordained to the Holy Apostleship, and in August of
that year the Lord again said: “...Peter, and James, and John, whom I have sent unto you,
by whom I have ordained you and confirmed you to be apostles, and especial witnesses
of my name, and bear the keys of your ministry and of the same thing which I revealed
unto them; unto whom I have committed the keys of my kingdom, and a dispensation of
the gospel for the last times; and for the fulness of times, in the which I will gather together
in one all things, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth.”
